Dr. Lawrence S. Brown, Jr. is named Chair, Dr. Ralph Hale and Evelyn Ashford are recognized for their legacy, and Olympic Gold-Medalist Edwin Moses and Dr. Brian Hainline are elected as newest members.
As long-time Chair, Dr. Ralph Hale retires from USADA’s Board of Directors, Dr. Lawrence S. Brown, Jr. takes over the Chairmanship, and two new members have been elected to serve four-year terms. Olympic Gold-medalist Edwin Moses and Brian Hainline, M.D., join the Board of the ten-year old agency, both bringing solid backgrounds in furthering the anti- doping effort, as well as in supporting and enhancing the positive role of sport when played fairly and safely.
Along with Dr. Hale, also retiring from the USADA Board is Olympic Gold-medalist Evelyn Ashford. Ms. Ashford served from 2003 to 2010. Dr. Hale served two terms beginning in 2000, and has been Chair since 2003. Both leave a legacy of outstanding commitment and dedication to the global anti- doping movement, and tremendous contributions to USADA throughout the agency’s first decade.

Lawrence S. Brown, Jr., M.D., M.P.H., F.A.S.A.M., a member of the USADA Board since 2000, is a physician-researcher with training in internal medicine, neuroendocrinology and addiction medicine. Brown is Senior Vice President at the Addiction Research and Treatment Corp. in Brooklyn, N.Y., and has appointments as Visiting Physician at Rockefeller Hospital and Clinical Assistant Professor of Public Health of the Weill Medical College at Cornell University. Brown provides consultation to a host of government and private agencies.
Edwin Moses is an Olympic Champion, sports administrator, diplomat and businessman, and one of the most respected and recognized athletes of our time. He has served and promoted the Olympic movement, and fostered the development of “drug-free” sports and the rights of amateur athletes at all levels. A physicist from Morehouse College, Moses is known for utilizing the applied sciences to perfect the technical aspects of his athletic performance in his event, the 400 meter hurdles. This knowledge also enabled him to create, implement and administer the world’s most stringent random and out-of- competition testing systems for performance-enhancing drugs in sports, as an initiator in the anti- doping effort at the USOC that ultimately led to the creation of USADA. As a sports administrator, Moses is best known for his skillful and courageous directives in the development of policies against the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
Dr. Brian Hainline is a leading neurologist, practicing as Chief, Neurology and Integrative Pain Medicine at ProHEALTH Care Associates in Lake Success, NY, and serving as Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Hainline also currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for the U.S. Tennis Association, and has held a number of prestigious appointments, such as one-time member of the Tennis Anti-Doping Review Board, the Medical Advisory Board of the New York State Athletic Commission, and the Sports Medicine Committee for the USOC, among many others.
