Since the launch of our new USADA Updater app, we have received feedback that athletes would like to learn how to better navigate through the app and update Whereabouts more easily. In this video, we will demonstrate some common ways to easily and correctly make updates on the app.
Let’s start by reviewing some examples of incomplete or incorrect updates, such as:
- Adding a travel day with no other associated information, including how long you will be traveling, where you will be staying and training, and when you will be traveling back.
- Adding a training, overnight, or other location, but not providing a full address.
- Adding multiple locations at the same time on the same day, therefore creating conflicts. In other words, being at two different locations at the same time on the same day.
- Adding locations but not providing details on how to locate you for testing if access is restricted. For instance, if you live in a gated community.
Now that we’ve discussed some of the common update issues that we see, let’s talk about how to properly provide updates using the USADA Updater Application, which you can download by searching USADA in your Google Play or Apple Store.
How do you add a travel day?
Travel days can be used in situations where you are driving or flying to or from a new location. To add a travel day:
- Select the + button in the upper right-hand corner.
- Select “Add Travel Day.”
- Enter the date on which you will be leaving.
- Add notes about your trip, such as where you are going, if you are driving, and flight information if you are flying.
- Lastly, you will want to repeat these steps to add a travel day for when you will be returning.
- Click “Save.”
How do you add an overnight location?
It’s very common to have a different overnight location. You need to add an overnight location if, for example, you’re staying at a friend’s house for a night or at a hotel for a few nights. To do so:
- Select the + button and then select “Add Overnight.”
- In the ”Search for a location” bar, type in a description of where you will be staying, such as a hotel name, friend’s house, secondary home. Note that you can use the “Current Location” button if you are already at the location that you want to update us on.
- Select the “Add as” button.
- Select the location type – In this case it would be “other location”.
- It’s important that you provide a complete address. Use the “Anything else we should know” section to share with us notes about how we can locate you for testing at this location. For instance, “I’m staying in hotel room number 241.”
- Click “Next.”
- Enter the dates for which you will be staying at this overnight location.
- Click “From,” select the date, and click, “OK.”
- Click “To,” select the date, and click, “OK.”
- Click “Save.”
If you have an Android, this is what the dates & times will look like on your app.
How do you add a new training location?
To add a new training location:
- Click on the + and then select “Add Entry.”
- In the location search bar, type in your updated training location, for example, ABCD Gym.
- Select “Add as” ABCD Gym or use the “Current Location” functionality.
- Select the location type- In this case, it is “Training”
- Enter the full address.
- Use the “Anything else we should know” area to provide notes that will help us locate you for testing.
- Click “Next.”
- Select the days that you will be training at this location.
- If you have times that you will be training, select the button “Do you have specific times?”. It’s important that you provide training times when possible.
- It will then highlight in red what to select
- Click “From”, select the date and time, and click, “OK.” For example, my training time will start at 6:00 AM.
- Click “To”, select the date and times and click, ‘OK.” For example, my training will end at 7:00 AM.
- Click “Save.”
If you have an Android, this is what the dates & times will look like on your app.
Now that you’ve seen how to properly add a new entry, such as an overnight or training location, we’re going to show how to delete old information. It’s important to do this to avoid having conflicting information on your Whereabouts form.
How do you delete an entry?
- To delete an entry, you can either swipe left and click the red trash can icon, or you can click on the entry and click on the red trash can icon.
- You will now have the option to delete an individual date or a range of dates. In this scenario, we want to delete this training location for the next three days.
- Now you will see that the entry has been deleted from your Whereabouts for the selected dates.
As you update your Whereabouts you will notice that from time to time you create scenarios where you have conflicting information. For instance, you have two different training locations listed at the same time on the same day. Now we will show you how to resolve the issue.
How do you resolve conflicting information and delete an entry?
- As you will see on this day, there is conflicting information. You are training at Planet Fitness in Colorado and training at Defined Fitness in New Mexico at the same time.
- Since you obviously cannot be in 2 states at once, you will need to delete the entry that is not accurate.
- To delete an entry, you can either swipe left and click the red trash can icon, or you can click on the entry and click on the red trash can icon
- Since this location spans over a couple of days, it will ask you if you want to delete just that day or the range of dates.
- Click “Delete these dates.”
- Now you will see that the entry has been deleted from your Whereabouts.
Now we’ll show you how to add details about a location that has restricted access. In other words, the DCO will need special instructions for accessing the location. For example, let’s say you live in a gated community where an access code is needed for entry.
How do you update for a restricted access/gated community location?
- If any location provided in your Whereabouts has restricted access, it’s important that you provide instructions on how to gain access to the location.
- For example, let’s say that your primary overnight location has restricted access. You would click on the pencil icon to edit the location information.
- Next, in the “Anything else we should know” section, you would add information about how to gain access to the location, such as providing a gate code or call box number.
- Click “Save.”
- As you will see, those instructions are now under that location
How can I edit a 60-minute window?
RTP athletes should ensure that their 60-minute window is always updated and accurate.
- To edit, you can either swipe left and click the pencil icon, or you can click on the entry
- To edit the location, select the entry
- Click on the magnifying glass
- In the location search bar, type in ABCD Gym and select the one that appears
- If editing the days is needed, click on the “from” and “to” buttons to modify the days
- Click “OK”
- To edit the 60-minute start time, click on the start time and select the time
- Click “OK”
- Click “Save”
We hope you found this tutorial helpful. Remember, it’s important to:
- Always update as soon as you know your schedule is changing
- Always provide a complete address, dates, and times at each location
- Remember to delete outdated or conflicting information
- Don’t forget to add travel days and
- Always provide notes on restricted access locations.
If you fail to properly update, you could be subject to a Whereabouts Failure.
